If you’re a frequent traveler, chances are you’ve endured the long, slow crawl through TSA security lines—or the seemingly endless wait at immigration when returning home from abroad. But what if you could bypass both… permanently?
Enter: Global Entry
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that offers expedited clearance for low-risk, pre-approved travelers entering the United States.
Here’s how it works:
Complete a detailed application
Pay a $100 nonrefundable fee
If conditionally approved, schedule an in-person interview at a participating airport.
Upon final approval, receive your Global Entry ID.
At the airport, Global Entry members head straight to designated kiosks, scan their passport or U.S. permanent resident card, provide fingerprint verification, and make their customs declaration. A quick receipt, a short walk to baggage claim, and you’re out the door—no waiting in the main immigration line.
Bonus: TSA Pre✓ Included
As a Global Entry member, you’re also automatically enrolled in TSA Pre-Check, which allows you to breeze through U.S. airport security in a special expedited line. No need to remove your shoes, belt, light jacket, laptop, or liquids. It's a major time saver—and stress reducer.
Is Global Entry Worth It?
Global Entry (and the bundled TSA Pre✓) is a great fit if:
✈️ You plan to travel internationally at least once in the next five years. Even occasional travelers say the time saved is well worth the $100.
💳 You carry premium credit cards like the Amex Platinum, Mercedes-Benz Platinum, Business Platinum, or Centurion. These often reimburse the application fee as a statement credit. Other cards may as well—check with your issuer.
🏙️ You live near a Global Entry enrollment center (see the full list of locations here). An in-person interview is required, so accessibility matters, especially if you don’t travel often.
You can view the full list here to check whether your home airport or airline participates in TSA Pre-Check.
Bonus for Canadians
If you’re a Canadian resident, you’re in luck! If you qualify for Canada’s NEXUS program (just $50), you automatically receive Global Entry benefits at no extra cost.
Whether you’re planning a bucket list international escape or want to streamline your next family vacation, programs like Global Entry and TSA Pre✓ can take the hassle out of travel and give you more time to enjoy the journey.
